Hunting Island enjoys a semi tropical weather pattern. The spring time, March and April, brings extremely nice weather. It is normally in the 60-70 range during the day, and mid 60's at night. A lot of the flowering plants on Hunting Island and nearby Beaufort begin showing their colors. The air is sweet with the aroma of new flowers. The days are usually clear with a nice breeze on the beach. It's perfect for walks or just relaxing. The pesky sand flea is becoming an annoying friend to all, so repellent is almost a requirement as it really helps to repel them. By summer the temperature is getting into the 90 range, although hot, there is a good breeze off the Atlantic Ocean which really cools it down to a comfortable level. The ocean breeze also holds back most of the flying bugs. The skies are mainly sunny with an occasional shower or thunderstorm. It's perfect beach weather. The water temperature is nice for swimming. If in the sun, strong sun screen is a must. The sun is very strong here and can burn the skin very quickly. Thirty minutes of sun on Hunting Island is like hours of exposure in other parts of the country. So be warned, sun screen is a requirement. The sunburns here can be very painful and can ruin a beautiful vacation. Thunderstorms become fairly frequent in the late afternoon in July through September, although annoying, it does help cool thing down as the temperature are in the 90 - 100 range. The beach breeze makes it feel more like in the 80's. In October things start to feel more like spring. Day temperatures are in the 60-70 range and skies are ice blue clear. November and December are nice, a few days of really cold stuff, in the 30's, but most days stay in the 50-65 range. Short sleeve shirts are still being worn by many locals. Although the beach is not packed, there are a good number of people who still come, mainly for walking and sightseeing. The breeze on the beach is cool and most wear a windbreaker. The water temperature is very cool, not ideal for most, but there are usually some surfers out there trying to catch a wave. It is perfect weather for camping though and at night you pretty much have the entire beach to yourself. The coldest days here are usually in January and February. The breeze off the ocean can be very cold, although not many people are at the beach, there are still a few surfers. Most of the year brings nice beach weather. You can find a lot more on the weather patterns for the Beaufort area on Beaufort USA.
