Views from the Top of the Hunting Island Lighthouse

Hunting Island State Park Lighthouse : c 2000 R.J. Sorensen

Views from the Hunting Island lighthouse. The first lighthouse on Hunting Island was destroyed by the confederates during the beginning of the Civil War to prevent the Union from using it as a means of navigation. It was re-built in 1875 and remained in service until deactivated in 1933. Today it is the only lighthouse open to the public in South Carolina. At 132 feet above the ground, the view is majestic!
